Hi! My name is Emily Morris and I am so happy you’ve found your way to my website, whatever the reason may be. Let me start by telling you a little about myself.
I was born and raised in Florida by my mom and dad, alongside my three older siblings. Yep, I’m the baby of the bunch and my brother and sisters love to point that fact out. We were brought up to understand that this world did not revolve around us and the concept “it is better to give than to receive” was lived out in the actions of my parents. If you know me at all, you know I’m obsessed with my family and I could go on and on for days about how grateful I am for every single member and how they have formed me into the person I am. But for now, I’ll stop there.
After graduating from The Florida State University (GO NOLES!) in 2011, I moved to Austin, Texas where I have now resided for almost 7 years. This city is my city. It is the perfect mix of art, nature, music, business and health consciousness and I felt at home the moment my feet hit the dirt on Lady Bird Lake Trail. I am a Board Certified Music Therapist and I get to spend my day using music as a tool to rehabilitate, engage and support those with a variety of needs. I work with itty-bitty premature babies who need to learn how to suckle. I provide a healthy way of expression for young adults dealing with trauma. I use the rhythm to rewire neural synapses in the brain of someone with a motor movement disorder. I have the greatest job in the world.
Apart from my family and my music therapy passion, I am lucky enough to have found additional areas in life that bring me so much joy. I love, love, love to run long distances, swim and rock climb. I get the privilege of leading the worship team at Austin Tribe. I also am a singer-songwriter and love performing shows around town (buy my music here!). But perhaps my biggest passion currently in life, and probably what led you here, is helping people prioritize their health and find the tools to succeed in developing a beneficial relationship with food and their bodies. If you are interested in knowing more about my personal journey with disordered eating and finding health you can read in detail about that here!
So, that’s pretty much it! I’m a hard working, family loving, adventure seeking, God following, social rights fighting, healthy eating human being who just truly desires the best for every single person with whom my path crosses. I created The Side Brussel to help others find an intentional life, whether it be in regard to their physical health, mental wellness, relationships with others or purpose here in this world.
